What is the Residents' Registration Office and why do I have to register?

Anyone moving to Austria or changing addresses within the country is legally required to register their new address with the authorities. The official application form is called the Meldezettel, and the final certificate you receive is the Bestätigung der Meldung.

Important Deadlines & Process

The Right Timing: The registration window opens on the actual day you move in (when you receive your keys)—not when you sign your tenancy agreement.

Deadline: Austrian law officially requires registration within 3 business days of moving in.

Where to register: You can complete your registration at any Residents’ Registration Office (Meldeamt / Magistratisches Bezirksamt in Vienna). You do not have to go to the specific district office where your THE FIZZ building is located.
